Have you ever felt like no matter what you do, you find yourself no closer to accomplishing your goals? As if there is never enough time in a day to do what you really want to do? Do you find yourself lacking the energy to focus on the projects that speak to your heart?
If your answer is yes, you may have your energy focused on too many things at once. And it is probably high time to release the energetic clutter from your life so that you have space and time to do those things that inspire you, bring you joy and assist you in moving forward towards your dreams.
Inside this post, you will learn four steps to release the energetic clutter from your life so you can create space for your dreams.
How to Release Energetic Clutter & Create Space for Your Dreams
Having many interests is great; it’s when you focus your energy on multiple things at a time that it becomes problematic.
When your energy is tied up in too many things, you will likely find yourself with incomplete projects, books, and courses. And most importantly, with insufficient energy to focus on the projects that speak to your heart. And this can, in turn, leave you feeling discouraged and even burnt out.
And I get it. I’ve been there; I used to always have multiple things on the go at any one time. It’s like that meme of the man who has sufficient books to read at home but then sees a bookstore and buys more books. Can you relate?
What if I told you that it is possible to have the energy you need to focus on the projects that bring you joy? Would you take the steps necessary to get there?
To do so, you must release anything that is no longer in alignment with who you are today and anything that has already served its purpose. And to assist you with this, I created the following four steps:
4 Steps to Release Energetic Clutter
(1) Become conscious of the areas where you are spending your energy
The first step to releasing energetic clutter is to become conscious of the areas where you spend your energy. To do this, we will create an inventory of all the areas where you send your energy.
Ask yourself: “Where am I focusing my energy at this time?” Take a piece of paper and write down everything that comes to mind. No matter how unrelated an idea may seem, be sure to include it.
Keep this piece of paper handy in the coming days because as you peel back one layer, you may find another underlying layer with more areas you hadn’t considered before.
(2) Identify the areas that are important to you
The next step is to prioritize those areas that are important to you.
Ask yourself the following:
- What inspires me?
- What brings me joy and happiness in the present moment?
- What is in alignment with who I am today?
- What hasn’t already served its purpose?
- What do I want to do?
- What speaks to my heart?
On your piece of paper, draw a star next to the areas that meet the criteria above.
(3) Identify the areas that are no longer in alignment with who you are today
The next step is to identify those areas that are no longer resonating with your vision of your life.
Ask yourself the following:
- What is weighing me down in the present time?
- What can I let go of?
- What is no longer serving me?
- What is no longer in alignment with who I am today?
- What takes up my time and energy that doesn’t contribute to my vision of where I want to be?
On your piece of paper, cross out any item that meets the criteria above. These items are those that no longer resonate with who you are today and where you want to be in the future. These are the items that need to be released.
To release these items, thank them for their role in your past, give yourself permission to let them go, and then let them go.
You may find it hard to release some of these things, especially if you’ve invested a lot of time and money into them. But if you do not release them, they will continue weighing you down, holding you back from where you could be. No matter the time, the money, or the energy you’ve spent on them – if they are no longer resonating with who you are today, it’s time to let them go. And when you do, you may feel like a weight is lifted from your shoulders.
(4) Identify the leftover areas on your list
There will be items left over on your list that may not necessarily be inspiring but that need to be done. For example, you may be focusing your energy on studying for a test that you need to take or on your daily, weekly, or even monthly errands.
These leftover items make up your to-do list, and getting them out of your head and onto paper is essential. Because each thing you have circling in your mind is taking up energy, time, and space to use towards your goals.
Take a look at these leftover items, and ask yourself if they really need to be done or if you can let them go. Sometimes we have things on our to-do lists that don’t help us move forward. It’s an opportunity to release anything else that isn’t necessary.
Then prioritize your to-do list by importance, and schedule each item. Because a to-do list without action is energetic clutter, develop a plan to complete each task. And if there’s something that will take just a couple of minutes of your time, do it right away to get it off your plate.
And there you have four steps to release the energetic clutter from your life so you can create space for your dreams!
To move forward with your dreams, choose a goal from your starred list to begin and break it down into small actionable steps so you can get started today. Every little step adds up, my friend. It’s time to take back your energy and consciously direct it towards your goals.

Sara, I just found your blog. This is a great article! NOT the same old, same old that I’ve heard for years. You’ve made the problem with clutter even more clear than Marie Kondo. Write a book! Thanks for this.
Hi Deborah,
Thank you very much for your kind words (Welcome to the blog!). I’m glad the post was beneficial for you.
I hope you are having a wonderful evening.
