Finding new ways to incorporate crystals into your daily life can be fun. However, it’s important to remember that not all things created with crystals are necessarily beneficial for you and can even be detrimental to your health.
Crystal phone cases are one of these creations that I see more and more in the marketplace. And you may think, “but there are crystals in there; surely that’s going to assist me!” The simple fact that there are crystals present does not mean it’s good for you. Inside this post, I talk about why I would never purchase a crystal phone case and what I would get in its place.

Why EMFs are concerning
Electronic devices have become an integral part of modern society. Chances are, everywhere you look – whether you are at a restaurant, a park, a friend’s home, etc. – you will see someone with an electronic device.
Though it’s true that electronic devices have made our lives easier in many ways, there are also disadvantages that come with technology. And one of the issues with electronic devices is that they emit human-made electromagnetic field (EMF) radiation.
If you have ever felt tired and lacked energy after spending a lot of time on your electronic devices, you may have experienced symptoms of excess EMFs. I know I feel drained if I spend too much time on my phone. And even if you aren’t on your electronic device but have it nearby, you can still experience the effects of EMFs because EMFs are emitted into the environment around these devices regardless if you are active on your device.
Now here’s the thing, we don’t have enough research yet on the effects of exposure to human-made EMFs since we are still in the infancy of the modern technical world. And we have yet to see the long-term effects of an electronic device, such as a cell phone, over a person’s lifespan.
However, what is becoming more apparent is that more and more people are reporting that they have electromagnetic hypersensitivity. Some of these individuals’ most commonly reported symptoms of excess EMFs include fatigue, anxiety, irritability, headaches, insomnia, depression, dizziness, nausea, ringing in the ears, and more. And what’s even more problematic is that more and more studies have labelled EMFs as a possible carcinogen.
These early studies are concerning since most people tend to place their cell phones in their pockets during waking hours. And even if you do not own an electronic device, you will most likely still be affected by EMF radiation. According to the World Health Organization, “all populations are now exposed to varying degrees of EMF, and the levels will continue to increase as technology advances.”
Today EMFs are everywhere, from your cell phone to wi-fi routers, power lines, Bluetooth devices, microwaves and more. In modern society, it is impossible to be rid of EMFs entirely in our daily lives.
Why I Wouldn’t Buy a Crystal Phone Case
So now you might be wondering what this all has to do with a crystal phone case.
First, let me clarify what I am referring to when I say “crystal phone case.” Visualize a phone case with natural crystals (for example, rose quartz) glued or otherwise incorporated into the case.
I’ve been coming across these crystal phone cases more and more lately, and to be honest with you, they make me cringe. And here’s why:
All of the crystal phone cases I’ve been coming across are created with silicate crystals. Silicate crystals include the quartz (like rose quartz, clear quartz, amethyst, tiger’s eye, citrine, etc.), agate, beryl, and other crystal families. And silicate crystals amplify the energy around them.
Energy amplification can be both a great thing and a not-so-good thing depending on the context. When it comes to using a silicate crystal phone case, energy amplification is problematic because these crystals amplify anything inside their energy field. And when you pair an amplifier of energy with EMFs, you amplify those EMFs into your environment.
I don’t know about you, but I am not interested in increasing my EMF intake. Whether EMFs are truly carcinogenic or not, I already feel adverse effects when I am on an electronic device for too long. Why take that chance?
As a Certified Advanced Crystal Master and someone always searching for more ways to incorporate crystals into their daily life, I would not recommend purchasing a crystal phone case.
What I’d get instead
You may wonder how you can lessen the EMFs you encounter on your cell phone.
It goes without saying that the more time you spend apart from your electronic devices, the better. Perhaps you leave your phone in another room at night or place it down across the room from you when it’s not in use.
But what about when you are using your phone? How can you lessen the effects then?
Pela Case has created a radiation reduction tool, called Ethos, that you place between your phone and phone case. It blocks up to 80% of the EMFs from your phone and is fully compostable when you are done with it! I use one inside my phone, and it gives me peace of mind that I am eliminating a fair amount of the EMFs.
Ethos – Radiation Reduction Tool
Ethos redirects up to 80% of harmful radiation away from your phone but does not affect your cell phone reception. Even better, it is fully compostable!
Another downside of the crystal phone cases on the market is that they are made with plastic. I am always searching for ways to eliminate plastics from my life because the truth is, they will be around for hundreds of years when we are done with them. Plastics add up. So instead of purchasing a plastic phone case, why not get a compostable one?
Fortunately, Pela creates beautiful, sustainable and compostable phone cases! They have many different designs, and their phone cases offer excellent drop protection.

Pela’s mission is to create a waste-free future. Their sustainable phone cases are beautiful, compostable, and offer great drop protection. I love their phone cases! I currently have one with a sea turtle design.
And now you know why I would not personally buy a crystal phone case. There’s no getting away from EMFs, but we can take steps to lessen the effects. Now some crystals can reduce EMF radiation; however, I have not seen any crystal cases using these crystals. And even if there were one, unless it was on a biodegradable phone case, I wouldn’t make the switch from my Pela cases.
With Love,

But what if I were to make a phone case with EMF protective crystals?
Hi Caity,
You could definitely make a phone case for that purpose. It’s super important for the user of crystals to understand the type of crystals they are utilizing in their projects. Here in this article I am focusing on the crystal phone cases that are currently out there on the market- and I haven’t seen any of them use crystals for the purpose of EMF protection.
Typically the phone cases on the market have been geared towards silicate crystals (think crystals like quartz, opal, lepidolite, etc) – which are not safe to use in combination with electronic devices when it comes to EMF’s. Silicates are semi-conductors of energy.
You would need to make sure that the crystal you use isn’t magnetic (which could delete the data on the electronic device – hematite is naturally magnetic for example).
The best crystals for EMF protection are those that are ferromagnetic (which contain iron) – however, a lot of those are magnetic. My suggestions would be Black Tourmaline and Shungite.
Hope this helps!
With Love,
Sara

Great article! Question: are you opposed to quartz phone cases? Because you say in the end that you wouldn’t buy crystal phone case so I’m just wondering if you’re talking about any crystal or just quartz specifically.
Thank you!
Hi Leyla, I am referring to any crystal phone case using silicate crystals – not just the quartz family, but the agates, beryls, etc. I’ve only seen silicate crystals being used in crystal phone cases on the market. I also haven’t seen any crystal phone cases geared towards EMFs. But for me personally, if one for EMFs did exist and it wasn’t biodegradable I also wouldn’t purchase it.
